Cryovac is proprietary term for vacuum packaging material, which has entered the language to mean all vacuum packaging, like "Xerox," "Kleenex" or "BandAid." In this process, meat is sealed in plastic and the air removed by a vacuum pump. It is also the thermoplastic resin wrapping film which can be heat-shrunk onto foods.
