An objective function makes a function or equation more effective in a model. An objective function can be the result of an attempt to express a business goal in mathematical terms for use in decision analysis, operations research, or optimization studies. The main purpose is either a cost function, which would be minimized to various restrictions, or a profit function, which should be maximized to a number of restrictions. For example, within computer programming, the use of coding techniques and tools reflect the business environment as a set of elements (or objects) with associated properties. The objects summarize data and functions and the properties of the interest to the business.
